  • Seven months is plenty of time to train up to that distance if that’s your goal, but you’ll need to purposefully train if you don’t want to have a really bad time or hurt yourself. Your current fitness level and age will also be factors.

The main thing is that when you train for longer distances than your body is used to you need to slowly work up to the target distances so you don’t injure yourself. The general practice is the 10% rule where you should only ever increase your total weekly mileage by 10% from the previous week. As a former shin splint haver and person who ran a half marathon last weekend, running injuries suck and take a really really long time to heal fully from. You don’t want that when you’re on a tight deadline, so best to be careful.

Generally when you’re training for distance you don’t want to do more than a single “long run” day per week so that you don’t strain your joints and bones too heavily. There’s a bunch of “couch to whatever distance” schedules out there that can give you a good schedule to start off with as a skeleton and, if you want, you can modify it for your body and timetable. Your long run is usually only ever going to be like 80% of the race distance max unless you’re doing a race trial(which you should do once or twice in the last month or two of training).

I don’t know how high altitude this is and I don’t know if your body is used to the altitude that the race is at or not, but if it’s not you’ll also need to know that the lower air oxygen concentrations of a high altitude race will hit you like a truck if you’re not ready for it. Just keep that in mind and it will make things much harder. If you don’t have access to the altitude your race will be at you’ll essentially need to train for a longer race than you’re actually doing.

Hills suck. Hill workouts suck, but they also make your legs super strong, strengthen your lungs, and get you in shape very quick. Try to incorporate them into your workouts every other week or so in the beginning until you can add runs with decent hills organically built into them. Hills are a part of cross country running and you’ve just got to learn to power through them.

Get used to waking up early. As your distances increase and your runs take longer, first thing early in the morning is usually the only time to organically and consistently fit an hour or two of running into a day for most working adults if you’ve got a normal day job type schedule. Otherwise you’ll just need to figure out what works for you.

  • I have a few times. Only for a few months at most though. The process of quitting sucks. Even after tapering my consumption of the course of a few weeks, when the time to stop came I felt like a helpless wet noodle of a human being for about two weeks until things kind of normalized. It did make the workday exceptionally tough to get through at first, especially since I was in a customer facing role at the time.

On the upside, it actually made mornings far better in terms of my energy level surprisingly enough. A lot of the grogginess of waiting until you’ve had a cup of coffee before you can function in the morning disappears and you can just wake up and start your day. Losing the ritual of drinking a cup of coffee was bittersweet though and I had to find other ways to start my day off on my terms.

  • He’s got an automated feeder that goes off 3 times a day at specific times and then gets wet food for dinner. He’s always stoicly waiting nearby for about an hour before any meal. That’s way less than it used to be, but it still sucks that he spends 4 hours of his day just waiting and wishing to get fed. It actually really bothers me on an emotional and existential level, but I’d rather make the tough decisions and be sad than have him not be healthy and living his best cat life.

  • Like others have said a healthy body fat for a cat is kind of determined by their ribs. You should be able to feel their ribs when petting them, but not be able to visually see them while they’re lounging about or walking.

My cat is also a former fat cat that’s been on a diet for years now. He has similar behavior to yours where he waits for his food for unreasonable(and sad) amounts of time, but is very healthy. It bums me out to watch, but he doesn’t have the self control to graze freely.

  • I think a lot of the community pushback is for that exact reason. People expect a different game when a 2 is attached, not a shinier version of the same game. I really don’t know if any IP that’s done this well from a marketing standpoint. Maybe OW2, but that’s also been a trainwreck.

I don’t know that I agree necessarily with your second point though. A big selling point for a lot of the live service games going through this process is a changeover to a newer game engine. You’d be surprised how limiting in terms of features, graphics, and performance it is to be on an engine that’s over a decade old.

  • It’s early access development. I’m not even sure it’s a beta at this point.

    Ahhh, thanks for the clarification.

Smite 2 has been bombing? I wasn’t aware it was even available to anyone yet? I’ve been looking forwards to it.

It goes 24/7 open alpha at the end of the month and they’ve had a handful of closed alpha weekends and marketing tournaments over the past few months. The game suffers from some weird design/map choices and they’ve only ported over like a dozen or so gods so far which is a big sticking point for a bunch of people. I’m sure it will be fine eventually, but it’s rough around the edges right now.

  • This is all mostly true in my experiences. The sexual aspects being the most impactful and otherwise just being careful about how you dress, which is more of a slight inconvenience sometimes than an actual problem, but there are others.

    • There’s no such thing as a quickie because of how much warmup is required and then once you’re down to business chafing becomes a serious issue very quickly if you’re not careful.
    • Most alternative sexual acts to PIV(and even that) are out of the question or difficult and unsatisfying with some women.
    • You can’t use standard condoms without risking breakage and need to use very expensive brands or custom order them(and they still don’t fit right).
    • Depending on how far up the spectrum you are, staying erect without medical help can be difficult, but this is more of a fringe issue.
    • Wearing good underwear is required otherwise nothing is left to the imagination. For example, I generally can’t wear sweatpants or swimwear in polite company without taking extra precautions. In a similar vein tight clothes also present a similar issue and are more uncomfortable.
    • A lot of people don’t realize the self esteem issues that usually come along with it. It sucks to literally have an otherwise great relationship ruined because you physically cannot have sex with a partner.
    • A lot of men end up with weird dysmorphia issues. You don’t even realize it’s an issue until you’re well into adulthood because porn has ruined people’s expectations. If you’re not 12 inches long, you’re not big. I didn’t even realize the extent of the problems it caused until I was in my late 20’s because until that point I actually thought I was small…
    • You will never receive any sympathy for any of these issues and talking about it will get you laughed at in most circles.

  • I finally got a chance to give it a listen and I really enjoyed it overall. The jazzy song structure of the first few tracks (chorus-instrumental improv-chorus) was a little off-putting to me, but after about halfway through I was really everything they were doing. I don’t know why but every time I hear an upright bass organically mixed into a rock track it gives me a nice fuzzy feeling. I haven’t heard anything of theirs since Contra released and they’ve definitely come a looong way in terms of mixing and composition.

  • There really isn’t any native power structures exhibited between pawns. Aside from the obnoxious, slutty, sexually aggressive man behavior(which you’re right is stupid and a problem for a lot of reasons) and default marriage names going in favor of the man, gender doesn’t actually mean much. The tribal monocultures of each village honestly affects more than any individual pawns traits does.

You make good points regarding the use of unsupported statistics to push a specific LGBT+ worldview, but some of this criticism is a bit unfair because the player ultimately has full agency of it. If you want a matriarchal tribe of Amazonian goddesses that subjugate all men, you can absolutely do that as a player without any alterations or mods to the game. You would need to use the slavery mechanics which is a whole different can of worms to discuss though.
