In the book there are factions within the Trisolarans; pacifists warn Ye not to reply buy she does anyways which allows the imperialist Trisolarans to invade.
I thought he was minister for playground-equipment control?

And another thing - the trisolarans are fucked.
If Liu had written the Trisolans too similar to the US the audience would’ve called them unrealistically evil lol
Dark Forest doesn’t say communication is impossible, it says communication is dangerous. Dark Forest doesn’t imply that every civilization is evil and genocidal, just that the risk of exposing yourself to a potentially dangerous civilization is too great when the cost is existential.
Anthropologists and sociologists and linguists study humans on earth, not unknowable aliens in the vastness of space, I don’t see how their expertise is relevant. Again, Dark Forest rests heavily on (a) existential threats, and (b) acting effectively blind. These aren’t situations we face often or really ever in human history.
No, it assumes that at least one in many has a destructive response. I think the assumption is that most will hide, but the risk of a single civilisation being aggressive forces everyone to assume that anyone they meet is aggressive.
How is it that slow? I read the whole book in less time than that.
The key is that it’s a clash of civilisations working in almost complete ignorance of one another. Any destructive tendency that emerges is based purely on survival, not ideology of cultural or ethnic superiority. You destroy anything that raises its head because you can’t know whether or not it poses an existential threat.
It’s not nice, but it’s also not fascistic.
Have you not seen/read Harry Potter? It was one of the biggest franchises in the world, I’d bet most of the people on this site have consumed it one way or another.
You can criticise JK Rowling having not read the books but if you’re dunking on the material itself without having read it I think that’s pretty cringe.
fascism is right and you need to wipe out rival civilizations before they even know you exist, or they’ll do the same to you
Unironically “you can’t call everything you don’t like ‘fascism’”.
Dark Forest Theory is just game theory in space. How does it map to fascism?
I liked it. Kinda glad that they rushed through the first book because its easily the worst one. Characters are meh, except for Ye Wenjie who I liked, but they weren’t exactly all that compelling in the book either.
Haven’t watched the Tencent series but I hear its a poorly-paced slog (also is it true that that cultural revolution scenes are taken out?). Is it worth a watch or should I just read the books again instead?
Don’t agree. As long as the concepts are relatively simple, context can almost always fill in the gaps where tones fail.
You could say a toneless “weishengjian zai nali” and most Chinese are going to realise you’re asking where the bathroom is, because what else would you being saying?
On the miniapp they literally always have offers on; it’s usually more like 10 for a latte.
Coffee is a bit expensive (4-5 usd usually
You haven’t discovered Luckin yet?

PDX thankfully does a subscription thing at least. I don’t mind paying $10 for my revolving cast of map painter games.
