It doesn’t work as well, but if you’ve ever seen a non-flying squirrel fall/jump from a great height, they pretty much do the same thing and spread themselves out as flat as possible to lower their terminal velocity. If I recall correctly, squirrels can survive a fall at terminal velocity with little to no injury, and could probably safely skydive without a parachute. I wonder if they would enjoy it?
