I think the comic itself is mocking the big suit pigs who make rent double the mortgage, not implying that every single landlord charges double the mortgage. Sure it’s unrealistic and pretty far from reality for a lot of nuanced reasons, but it is purely theoretically possible for housing to be double the mortgage somewhere.
