    Mar 27, 2024 - MM24 14th Match-Up: Stirling vs. HoM

I think this is going to be a very close match-up. It may come down to a variety of scents used during overtime, and Stirling has variety in spades. Hopefully, bringing out some older HoM scents may help if it comes to that.

I needed some bright, refreshing scents to get my morning going.

    Rating: 4.5/5

    • Razor: River Razor 14 8/8" Full Hollow

    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Island Man - Soap

    • Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. - Island Man - Aftershave

    • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Island Man is a dupe of Creed Virgin Island Water. I need to try this Creed fragrance because I absolutely love Rod’s dupe of it. A&E St. Barts is a dupe of the same fragrance, and while I like St. Barts, it does not have that blue-cool factor that you get with Island Man.

And, I’m supporting Stirling in today’s matchup. To provide so many products with such a high level of quality, at excellent value, and to do this for 12 years while continually growing the business, is exceptional. Kudos from me!

🏰 Stirling vs House of Mammoth 🦣

    • Brush: Boti Motherlode knot in laminated wooden handle
    • Razor: Dovo 41 Inox
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. Mountain Man
    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. Mountain Man
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. Mountain Man

I’m on a company engineering seminar in the mountains, so a Mountain Man trickhole is the perfect choice for my Stirling vote today. There’s simply no way I can get disappointed with today’s outcome. Both u/mammothben and u/stirlingsoap deserve to go all the way IMO, and I am somewhat optimistic one of them will.

Today was the first time I’ve taken a straight razor to the mountains and I made a fun observation: The thin, dry mountain air plays tricks with my strop and the leather-steel combo is like the plexy glass stick and cat pelt experiment from high school physics: crackling discharges of static electricity and all the hairs on my stropping arm stood up.

Every time I use the Motherlode knot I’m impressed and tell myself I should use it more, and I never do 🤷

Fantastic shave, I won’t be too mad if we get snowed in and I have to repeat it a few times.

    • Brush: Wilkinson Sword Badger

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2024: Megalodon Mittwoch

I got mail from yourshaving, and I decided to try out Megalodon first (admittedly, the only possible alliteration for today…). I’m very impressed with the quality of the HAGS soap base – my face feels moisturized and very relaxed. If you don’t know it, it’s definitely worth a try! The scent is not love at first sight, but I believe it will grow on me.

    Have a good night!
