I feel like I would like this Dune, not the new one. The main character fits better in this version. I’m biased cause I can’t stand Timothee Chalamett. He’s a manufactured nepo baby made in a lab, and trained to be an actor since he was in diapers. He’s unrelatable and soulless, so I just can’t with him

By all means take a couple of hours and watch it. It’s been a while since I watched it, but it’s full of very interesting choices, some better than others. I actually don’t really love McLachlan as Paul though, and the whole thing takes a very theatrical approach. I can see the criticism of Chalamet, but I think he does a fairly good job of leveraging the fact that he was trained since diapers and gets in to the role. Hell, being a guy who’s a little bit manufactured may make him the perfect person to play the Kwisatz Haderach.

Interesting take on Chalamet. I see what you mean about his being unrelatable.

I read somewhere that he hasn’t auditioned for a role in like 10 years, which is kinda fucked up for a young actor, it shows his connections. His parents were ultra rich and his mom was a Broadway performer. He’s been trained to be an actor since birth with no choice to do anything else. That’s why I find him so unrelatable, he as a person has never lived a real life, just this fantasy rich kid life. Sure he’s talented, but anyone who grew up with his privilege and opportunities would be

While I agree that makes him kinda shit for most roles, that’s kind of a perfect fit for Paul Atreidies, right?

I mean, he was bred to be the Kwisatz Haderach by generations of Bene Gesserit, trained from birth to be a great ruler and warrior, pidgeonholed into becoming a messiah by his mother’s scheming, and basically had no choice about his path in life save for his prescience giving him some influence on the future.

That sounds like an ultra-nepo-baby with rich parents, no choice about his career, no chance to live a real life and a mountain of privilege to me.

save for his [Paul Atredies] prescience giving him some influence on the future.

Some statements will not age well. <3

I think they gave the child actor for Alia a little too much heavy emotional lifting to do in this scene. It breaks immersion for me, and I understand why they might have cut it, apart from any broader pacing or narrative issues. She worked for the role she was given because she came off creepy AF and I think you’d have to spend a lot more run-time and effort dialing in her humanity than they had available to them.
