He doesn’t want the hostages released, they are his best reason for the war. At least for starting it. It is obvious there is no intention to stop even if they will be released now. If I remember correctly, they suggested a two month ceasefire for all hostages. Not the end of the war. Just a short break, and God knows how likely it is to be broken.
