In fealty to US foreign policy, Mexico has long refused to recognize Palestinian statehood. Last week, that finally changed, with AMLO’s government officially acknowledging Palestinian statehood and establishing a full embassy in Mexico City.

On June 2, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that, as of the first of the month, it had reclassified its diplomatic mission in Mexico from special delegation to embassy. The ministry “expresses its firm conviction that this measure will contribute significantly to the . . . strengthening of relations between Mexico and the State of Palestine, on the basis of respect and mutual recognition, in benefit of our two peoples as well as international security and development,” it affirmed in a statement.

If you look at the mod log for that community ( https://lemmy.world/modlog/2840 ) they appear. They just dont appear in the lemmy.world mod log. So it’s significantly less suspicious… but its also obvious that c/world has an anti Israel bias. The one guy got banned for 338 years for posting facts that are not necessarily pro-Israel. I can even understand deleting all the comments since pal-israel is such of hot button topic. But the 338 year bans seem like a ridiculous overstep.

Ah well, I blocked the community. If they cant provide unbiased news I’ve got no room for them.

Oh there’s a community-specific log, I didn’t know, that makes things much easier.

Anyway, they only banned two users and it doesn’t seem they were posting “facts”, one of them commented something that, googling a bit, seems disputed by various sources, and I’m not sure about the other one because they made three comments in the thread but only one shows in the community modlog.

In any case yeah, not really a good sign to ban two people for 338 years without explicit reasons given.
