I teach a college-level animation course and try to work a showing of this in every semester. It’s such a raw example of high quality animation, with just enough story to keep it on task. Love this film.
Thanks for being such a cool teacher.
That looks rad.
I highly recommend it: it’s like the Fifth Element mixed with a good racing movie.
Turn off your brain and enjoy the show.
If you ever wonder why it looks so good, they didn’t use any CGI.
It is pretty bonkers and I absolutely loved it.
Absolutely wild movie with incredible animation. Story is okay and the ending is abrupt with no epilogue, but it’s worth watching just for the animation and score, which is phenomenal. The opening sequence is one of the best matches of music to onscreen action I’ve ever seen.
The dub is pretty good too. There’s a couple places where the sub sounds more appropriate and a couple places the dub has more impactful word choice, but you won’t lose any of the experience by going dub over sub.
Yep, the ending is the one thing I just cant set aside and enjoy the movie.
Animations are amazing even if the story is just decent.
7 years of hand-drawn animation with some crazy scenes.
Very cool. Blends a greaser/hotrod aesthetic with modern sci-fi and a bit of psychedelic surrealism, if I’m remembering, right. Worth it for any fan of animation.
Such a fun watch :)
Sick poster!
Never seen or heard of the movie before, thanks for the recommendation.
One of the best anime movies ever made. 7.5 doesn’t do it justice in my eyes. Yeah it can be a bit weird and the plot is thin, but that’s not everything. The action, animation, humor, sfx and music is fantastic.

This, Akira, and Summer Wars are my 3 fave anime movies that aren’t Ghibli or Satoshi Kon.
One of my absolute favorites!
