Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday slapped down former President Trumpās statement that immigrants are āpoisoning the blood of our countryā by pointing out Trump appointed his wife, Elaine Chao, who is Taiwanese American, to serve as secretary of Transportation in 2016.
Asked about Trumpās controversial comments, which have drawn comparison to Nazi rhetoric before and during World War II, McConnell pointed out the hypocrisy of the remarks.
āIt strikes me that didnāt bother him when he appointed Elaine Chao the secretary of Transportation,ā he said.
Chao also served in former President George W. Bushās Cabinet as secretary of Labor, becoming the first Asian Pacific American woman to serve in a presidential Cabinet.
Good to see from Mitch. Not something I say that often.
Itās almost nothing, almost a defense. They ask him about Trumps racism, and he replies like āTrump didnāt seem racist to me when he hired my wife.ā .
If thatās the best Mitch can do, heās pathetic.
None of this rhetoric is new with Trump. This was all out there the first go around. Where was Mitch then? Now that the dog is off his leash and isnāt so useful heās decided to āsay somethingā. Seems too little too late.
The fact that Trump and his cronies have on more than one occasion made me agree with Mitch McConnell makes me hate them even more than I do for their bigotry and assholery
