The absolute ugliness of religion.
The title is so wildly misleading. Most of these sacrificial virgins and their families were there willingly, as their proud way to help preserve their civilization and the favour of the gods. The drugs were there to help them to go without much pain, these weren’t kids who were put up there as punishment, their sacrifice would have been honoured by everyone
How is that misleading? Them being sacrificial virgins doesn’t make the act of drugging them and leaving them to freeze to death better.
Not to us, modern 2025 people, to them and their culture it means all the difference. Can’t judge people in the ancient world through our modern morality. To you, the idea of drugging your child and leaving them on a mountain sounds like abuse, to them this was an honour.
This girl would have been treated like a queen and fed the best foods and had the best care leading up to her sacrifice. And to them that was a proof of their respect for her sacrifice
You are not wrong on that account, but you are wrong on the account that the title is misleading. It is actually quite correct and precise. It doesn’t say the children were abused, or anything contrary to what you are describing. They were drugged and left to die.
