On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.

In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image dprk-soldier, a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.

I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.

I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

    The bottle of vanilla at my work claims in its label to have 300 FLAVOR NOTES. First off, too fucking many. Too many notes. That is fretless flavor. I cant even think of 300 flavors as a longtime cook, and for vanilla extract that’s 299 too many. If your vanilla tastes like 300 things, you fucked it up. That’s not something to brag about. That absurdity notwithstanding, I just hate the pretentiousness of saying ‘flavor notes’ or worse ‘flavor profile’. Its cop talk for fucking ‘flavor’. Just say flavor, the extra words are useless

    That V*ush thread where a depressed person had to deal with thst creep did remind me of a dude i used to work wirh who was on his way out when I was on mt way in to my current gig amd we had a solid comedy back and forth. Around a month after I started my best friend OD’d and I took a couple days off and when I told this guy about it he to me lol.t blank he was gonna try to be even more annoying to me this week so id have something else to thi k about and hed would constantly fake me out about work stuff or just be a silly jerk and it was one of the nicest things anyone has done for me. He k me exactly what he needed to do at that time cl sideline g our relationship as co-workers who got into a good joking around thing. I have no idea where thst guy is now but on thar day he did the exactly correct thing for me

    Person who works at the grocery store and chats me up every time who Im pretty sure has a crush on me and im very sure theyre too young had been using music as a go-to conversation thing, cause I look very punk so it’s a seemingly easy in. It actually puts me in an awkward place conversationally where I try to not come off as an elitist when explaining all the music im particularly into is very very underground. She showed my her Ghost shirt, and while I have heard a dong or two and don’t like em, I decided it would be best just to say I’ve never heard a song. If im in a position where I can put on some tunes I can talk anyone’s ear off about music, but for a conversation in a store it’s kinda hard cause all I can really do is list bands people have never heard of and the occasional one hit wonders from the 80s who have amazing cataloges outside that hit
