I got an email that my account was approved a few days ago but I haven’t been able to log in. It looks like more people are joining though so I wasn’t sure if it was just me.
My understanding is that it doesn’t matter all that much which server you join (other than for the local rules on the server of course) because lemmy is federated, i.e. it is an email-like system where you can interact with other servers freely. I may be completely wrong though. I am a new user.
That’s mostly true, but there are 2 other considerations as for which instance to choose:
-
Who’s your admin? Your admin has a lot of power on your instance. I doubt any of us would join a server run by a spez wannabe.
-
Are there any other instances blocked? There are occasionally very good reasons to block other instances. There are also bad ones. You can check the blocklist here
Those are more advanced things though, being able to make a thoughtful decision about that’ll come naturally with using the platform

Yes I think I figured out how to post on another server, but my understanding was that to make a community I need to have an account on that server, so I was trying to make an account on there as well
The other possibility is to message a user on
lemmy.ca
and ask them to make the community for you and then add you as a mod (and optionally remove themselves after verifying that stuck).Any reason you don’t want to create a community on your server,
sh.itjust.works
seems well managed from the outside. No specific reason really, I just want the option for it afterwards :)
@smorks@lemmy.ca might be able to help.
yep, i’ve already talked to them about it, from what I can tell it looks like their account on lemmy.ca is good to go.
Yea I ran into them in a different thread :))
