Glenn Martens’s Maison Margiela debut
This was the first of your posts today I saw and I didn’t even clock it as a person at first. I wonder what the designers’ statement on this look is? It’s very dehumanizing to cover the face so totally like this, and many of the styles distort the body quite heavily too. Is it commentary against the dehumanizing nature of contemporary society, or is it furthering it?
Hey! So the Maison Margiela fashion house has this reputation of being unconventional, provocative and shocking. It also values recycling and repurposing of materials. As far as the face coverings, anonymity is the emphasis, so that we’re admiring the garments and craftsmanship instead of the model. This avant-garde gown made of metallic threads pushes the boundaries of fashion and treats the garment like sculpted art. Hope that helps:)
