These BBC and American articles never mention that part, so I was surprised to hear it, but it seems the vessels are given plenty of warning and opportunity to avoid being sunk.
The ship didn’t head for Israel. The ship was operated by a company that had also sailed to Israel with a different ship.

The company was also willing to violate the blockade, it seems likely they’d change their destination once they passed the blockade.

The Houthis blockade is not a legal blockade according to international maritime law because its neither effective not discriminate. It’s piracy and terrorism against civilian vessels. It also has achieved nothing for Palestinians.
