Drivetrain technology has moved on in leaps and bounds, relegating the need for front derailleurs

    I’ll take a FD even a triple if I can have a comfortable good 14 pound bike for well under $2k. Brazed steel or carbon does not matter at all to me. $3k-$10k road bikes are garbage.

    Derailleurs in general are (almost literally) the weakest link in bicycle design and have been for 120 years. Fixies are popular for a reason.

    Bought a racing Peugeot from the 90s to use it for my daily comutes. First thing I did was remove the front derailleur… lighter, easier bike to ride.
