It also seems as though plans for a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 are in the early stages already. Speaking to PC Gamer, Eugene Evans, the senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing for WotC and Hasbro, said the company has already started conversations about what the next Baldur’s Gate game will look like and how it’ll be made. “We’re now talking to lots of partners and being approached by a lot of partners who are embracing the challenge of, what does the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise look like?” he said.

I don’t mean to sound like a fanboy, but I don’t think anyone else could do it. The reason Larian was able to accomplish what they did was because that’s literally what they do. It’s the only type of game they make and they are very good at what they do. The fact that the “Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Licensing” is the one talking about is a huge red flag to me. They might be just chasing the fame and money, but I hope I am proven wrong in the end. I love the genre and would love to see more of this kind of game and I do hope they pull it off in the end. I’ll stay optimistic, for now at least.

If they do go down this road, I think they need to find another smaller company to do it. I can’t imagine one of the giants in the game industry doing the IP any justice.

The article is over a year old. We know what Larian is working on next: Warhammer Dark Heresy and I forgot the other one.

Baldurs gate is a legacy. Larian did their part and made an amazing chapter. They’ve passed on the torch and that’s fine.
