Friends of Arturo Gamboa say they don't believe he ever brandished the weapon. Instead, they believe the shooting was a deadly miscommunication — someone overreacting because he was open-carrying.

A self-described “peacekeeper” shot three times at Gamboa. At least one of the bullets hit Gamboa in the side. Another bullet accidentally hit and killed a 39-year-old protester.

So some rookie sees a guy peacefully walking around with an AR-15 and starts blasting? Open carry is stupid, carrying an AR-15 alone at a protest is stupid. But it’s still the dude’s right. Maybe the “peacekeeper” was an off duty HiGhlY TraINeD cop.

    It’s wild to me that people yesterday were all over this guy when they thought he was some right-wing terrorist, but now that he’s a leftist, his actions are suddenly OK and he’s a victim.

    Weird how having more information leads to a more nuanced opinion. It’s almost like knowing that a person who is protesting a fascist is less likely to want to kill people also protesting a fascist…

    All we know is the story that was told by a couple people labeling themselves as “peacekeepers” who were also carrying loaded firearms… It will be interesting to see if these peacekeepers have any actual connections to groups who would actually want to protect people in that crowd, or are just right winged chuds who often attend these types of protest to keep an eye out on the leftist.

    That is the story being told by the only person who actually killed anyone. I also find it interesting that a person who was aiming a rifle and “planned to do a mass shooting” ran away without returning fire .
