Iraqi here!, I can confirm that people were optimistic of the invasion in the first 3 years or so in the hope that Americans would help iraq to re-establish itself thinking they would be a second Germany or Japan, then it all came crushing down with the civil war in 2006. Where America is now considered the evil that holds Iraq from moving in the right direction, and so began 20 years of destruction.
Edit: sorry for the typo.
No, silly. Those countries were peers that had a chance of destroying us. It was in our best interest to make sure they viewed us as friendly from there on. Your country was a proxy colony, and that means you get jack while we take all your things /s
Gods I hate colonial thinking. From America especially, but in general as well.
In 2004, shortly after the fall of the former regime, many Iraqis expressed optimism hopeful for a democratic transition, improved public services, and national recovery. However, this optimism began to erode by 2007, following the outbreak of sectarian violence in 2006 and the partial withdrawal of U.S. troops. Confidence plummeted, with only 45 % of Iraqis believing the country was on the right track.
Don’t mistake the Iraq War being a clusterfuck that the US exploited under the Bush regime for ideological and corruption purposes with Saddam’s regime being something that Iraqis were mourning to see go.
Hmm… I’m sceptical because it doesn’t show the actual poll results (what % expressed optimism in 2003?) and it just says “many” Iraqis expressed optimism not even most but I’ll give you the point there was some optimism briefly

Gonna need a source on that one
