Authorities Sunday arrested 57-year-old Vance Boelter following the largest manhunt in state history. He's charged in the targeted fatal shootings of Minnesota House DFL leader Melissa Hortman and her spouse, and the shooting of state Sen. John Hoffman and his spouse.
Unless a federal agency steps in for some reason, it’s likely to remain a state matter. It’s entirely possible that someone at the federal level would try and make it federal jurisdiction just so the shooter can be pardoned, but I doubt it’d have legal precedent. Which means it’s likely to be denied on a judicial level.
The president can’t pardon state crimes, fortunately.
