After suicide squad my theory has been that some of Jared Leto’s cult followers are Hollywood executives, seems the most plausible answer to things like Morbius

Why does this guy keep getting gigs? Has he ever given a good performance? I’ve only ever seen him be complete shit on screen.

He gave an excellent performance in Dallas Buyers Club. That’s about the only one I’m aware of.

I want to say requiem for a dream but it’s been a while and idk if he himself acted well or not.

I do remember Marlon Waynes was good, but that’s because I knew him from white chicks and was like, huh, he can do a serious role, good for him.

Because Hollywood is full of awful people with leverage and money. Know the right person or the right secret and who knows, you might just be president one day.

I would love this, but don’t see it happening. It was an excitement whiplash for me hearing about Tron 3, then hearing about the fact that Leto was in it. What a stupid decision.

“In this climate, you’d get in more trouble for saying something bad about Donald Trump on the air,” the exec noted.

Yep. Anonymous allegations, no criminal or civil charges, all known before studios decided to put him in two high profile movies = he’s backed by Hollywood power and will cruise through this just fine.

Sexual assault allegations aside, I’m baffled why he gets high profile jobs. He is not a good actor but he is an unpleasant coworker. He has nothing good going for him.

Exactly, look at Johnathan Majors. He had a lot against him, more than just allegations, but he wasn’t dropped by Disney until the conviction.

Look at Ezra Miller. He had allegations against him aplenty. Honestly he had more than allegations, but I don’t think many (any?) went to court. With the DCEU already dead it saved Warner Brothers the trouble of having to fire him, but he disappeared from TV & films immediately.

Disney really wants Tron to exist as a franchise. Tron Legacy was a huge film (cost wise) and it had a spin-off cartoon. They recently opened a Tron themed rollercoaster at their theme park. This film is meant to keep the franchise alive and renew interest.

Now I’m not against a good Tron franchise existing. Tron is a fun aesthetic. But obviously fuck Jared Leto. Whatever the future of Tron, the quicker they can drop Leto the better.

He is actually a good actor. But there are plenty of those around. Which still makes me wonder the same thing.

Lol, you and I are going to have to agree to disagree on that one. IMO, Leto is the poster boy for a particular strain of method acting that comes across cringe on screen and creates an unpleasant work environment off camera.

I don’t think you can really tell how an actor gets there by their end performance. And their behavior off screen is also unrelated. It seems like you have a hard time separating the person from the performance. Which is understandable, but something you should keep in mind when making assessments of any actor.

He certainly sounds like he’s annoying to work with. Which also makes me wonder why people would put up with him. Good actors aren’t rare, there of plenty of other options.

Off screen behavior can absolutely be related to the more extreme ends of method acting. Some method actors, not all, literally stay in character after the camera stops. I am being very careful to not cast my opinion on all method actors because there is a spectrum.

And I don’t fully subscribe to separating art form the artist If they’re alive and still being intolerable human beings, I think it is correct to incorporate that into overall valuation of their skill as an artist. The creative process is as much a part of the art as the end piece is.

You specifically said his form of method acting comes off as cringe on screen. I’m saying you can’t tell a person’s technique by the end result alone. You may know from other sources but not solely by what you see on screen.

Ah, well I disagree with that too. I don’t care for most billboard method actors, not Joaquin Phoenix, not Jared Leto, not Hillary Swank, not even Daniel Day Lewis. Actors I am not impressed by for the amount of accolades they get are highly correlated with actors who utilize the more intense end of method acting, even before I know anything about them outside the specific role.

I’ve also seen where I generally like an actor but dislike a specific role when they use method acting and normally don’t e.g. Charlize Theron.

But it’s a personal opinion, isn’t it? There’s no objectively “good” actor without clear criterion for definition of “good”.

There are genuinely “bad” actors. But you don’t see them much outside of community collage acting classes. But there accept ions to even that.
