Contrary to what left-wing optimists had hoped, Democratic nonvoters in 2024 appear to have been less progressive than Democrats who voted. For instance, Democratic nonvoters were 14 points less likely to support banning assault rifles, 20 points less likely to support sending aid to Gaza, 17 points less likely to report believing that slavery and discrimination make it hard for Black Americans, 17 points more likely to support building a border wall with Mexico, 20 points more likely to support the expansion of fossil fuel production, and, sadly for economic populists, 16 points less likely to support corporate tax hikes (though this group still favored corporate tax hikes by a three to one margin). Overall, nonvoting Democrats were 18 points less likely to self-identify as “liberal” or “very liberal.” Here is a point for the centrists.

After spending months blaming actual leftists, it turns out it was just regular Democrats that were okay with giving Trump the presidency.

Idiocy caused the “no show” problem. If you couldn’t remember that Trump was a threat from the last time he won, you’re a fool.

Idiocy caused the “no show” problem. If you couldn’t see that the Biden and Harris campaign were creating the exact conditions to make this happen by fighting with their own supporters over Israel (who turned out to vote against Trump anyway but made the Democratic party look like the chaotic shitshow it is with their protests) and telling everyone else that the economy was great actually and they were just too stupid to see that, you’re a fool (who was probably being paid six figures for campaign consulting).

It was less about Gaza and more about the economy. Your average American can’t find Israel on a map much less Gaza.

But boy howdy, telling the President “the economy sucks!” and only getting back “What are you talkin’ about, Jack? Economy is stronger than ever! Never been better!” Not even an “I feel your pain!”, that was the career ender.

The average American can’t find Israel on a map, but for a dedicated minority Gaza was very important. In a close election, it’s groups like this that decide the result, so the Democrats thoroughly alienating them certainly didn’t help.

Well, it’s not like Trump courted them either. And in the long run, who do you think is going to be more sympathetic to hammering out a peace proposal in the region?

What? He absolutely did. Trump explicitly ran on ending the war. Now anyone with half a brain could tell he was not going to do that, but compared to Biden and Harris he did court Gaza voters.

who do you think is going to be more sympathetic to hammering out a peace proposal in the region?

              Neither.

The economy was great for the elite. Income disparity wasn’t improving. Housing was overpriced. Companies actively trying to bust unions or prevent them from happening.

Was it better than Krasnov? Definitely.

People have short memories, though, and are mostly idiots who couldn’t find their way out of a wet paper towel and would probably manage to paper cut themselves while attempting it.

Then why are you making excuses for people who couldn’t be bothered to get off their ass and vote?

Partially because I believe in democracy and the right of voters / non voters to make bad choices,

Partially because I think complaining about non-voters isn’t going to change their behavior at all and might just make them more stubborn,

But mostly because I have spent my entire adult life watching asshole morons get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to advise Democratic candidates to do stupid shit like campaign with Liz Cheney, and then when they lose try to blame everything on trans people for existing or whoever’s the new scapegoat of the day, so I want to see all those fuckers lose their jobs and get shamed out of professional politics almost as badly as I want to see Republicans and their financiers in proson

It’s OK. They’ll just outsource all responsibility to the Democratic party again.

When people feel they had no hand in the outcome that’ll surely motivate them to come out next time. /s
