Meanwhile, Texas cops say no evidence of a hate crime.

As if the whole country isn’t tacitly approving of this by embracing hate and apathy.

There on fucking statement makes it clear it was a hate crime [ Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation," SAPD said on X.] If he had his house burn down and murder because he was gay THAT IS A FUCKING HATE CRIME!!! Fuck that police department ACAB.

Ohhhh…this provides much needed context & clarity that I didn’t have before. When I hear there’s been a ‘shooting’ in America, while this is technically correct, I don’t think it’s one person shooting another. I hear ‘shooting’, and I think one or more shooters/multiple targets/largely indiscriminate just one group vs another.

By all accounts, this is very discriminatory & targeted. Obviously. I would word it as “Jonathan Joss murdered”, then explain he was gunned down by a deranged homophobe.

Until just now, I genuinely assumed Mr. Joss got caught up in a mall or gang shooting. This is especially tragic & inexcusable, such targeted hatred.

Tbh, most “shootings” in America aren’t active shooter events in the way you expect. Most are targeted and related to other crime (be it robbery, revenge, domestic assault, etc), some fit the definition of mass shooting (4 or more shot incl shooter) but it’s gang/crime/drug related and often in those cases a bystander or two, more fall in that category than random mass shooter events by an order of magnitude.

The mass/school shootings you imagine are actually incredibly rare statistically, something like 0.00094% last time I checked. In fact even most “school shootings” are the same, with one or no people injured, and targeted. Or even accidental discharge with no injury by the school cop or a suicide in a recently shut down forever school at 3am in a car in the parking lot (real events counted in everytown’s school shootings numbers a few years ago).

Hate crimes are for sure more common, actually.

    Jonathan Joss 15m

Statement from Tristan Kern de Gonzales

    Husband of Jonathan Joss

My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.

Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.

When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.

While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.

Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.

Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.

He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other. I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.

To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family.

My focus now is on protecting Jonathan’s legacy and honoring the life we built together.

If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.

Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.

    Tristan Kern de Gonzales

This is PROOF that Cops PROTECT people and that GAYS are the Problem and NOT the people who LITERALLY MURDERED SOMEONE FOR BEING GAY AFTER THE COPS KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN BUT CHOSE TO IGNORE IT!

Buddy, you’re on lemm.ee. The entire point of your instance is to be federated with everyone else. If you don’t like that there’s communists on the social app built by communists, why don’t you just use any other instance? Or just go back to reddit?

              I ain’t your buddy.

i just dislike authoritarians: basically your entire instance; you included.

Any other commie, idk, i’d even say i like some of them. Anarcho commies are dope. Commies that bring the tanks out, not so much.

also, why don’t YOU go back to your hexbear sanctioned community instead of telling me what the fuck to do?

note: i’m done. this derailed completely off topic

Yeah I love political ideologies, I just hate the ones that do anything (very serious)

Commies that bring the tanks out, not so much

That’s true af dude, we would definitely live in a better world right now if the USSR had just allowed Hitler to march through all of Europe and kill everyone. And we would live in an even better world if after pushing out the Japanese imperialists and the nationalists, Mao had just said “uhh the state is an oppressive institution so I think now we’ll just dismantle everything and y’all can just organize horizontally or whatever.”

also, why don’t YOU go back to your hexbear sanctioned community instead of telling me what the fuck to do?

You’re the one who’s jumping on us Hexbear users just for participating here and telling us to defed…

I’ve learned more about homophobia in Russia and China from hexbear posts because they actually have solid sources and not just Wikipedia links posted with no context, and from what I’ve seen it’s a rare hexbear that would deny there is a problem with homophobia in Russia.
