    If you don’t get a 100% satisfactory answer, start looking for a new job (if you haven’t already). When you resign, do not accept a counter offer from your current employer.

    This kind of thing is stressful, because you’re trained to work for the company, and by requesting that your labor be compensated for what it’s worth, you are working for yourself, against the company. The company wants to extract the most value from you for the least cost. There is no shame in your doing the same for yourself. You should extract the most value from the company for the least cost to you.
