I’m more at the “battery is at 2%, plug in while I keep working, I’ll unplug and get back to it at 15%.”

Either I’ll be done by the end of the month or I’ll have a stroke around then, but one way or the other it’s temporary I guess.

    I know, but i can’t.

I don’t even get to have a break at “battery low”. You just push through and try to regain some energy somehow.

I had vacation this week. I have to live with my vicious covert narcissist ex right now because of money and our dogs, one of whom is pretty close to the end of his life, and honestly my day to day life with him is very nasty as he’s extremely manipulative and vicious. I can’t change this right now.

But he went away by himself this week, so I took it off; I have tons of vacation time, and it’s been SO NICE even doing basically nothing to just not really think about his horseshit for a week. He has been giving me the silent treatment for over 6 months now for reasons that I don’t know and don’t have the energy to find out, other than a few really vicious attacks and basic communication about day to day stuff we have to notify each other of (like appointments or dog things or whatever). It’s SO nice to just do what I want and detach from all this for a week. I’ve been going swimming at the community pool almost every day, and just floating around on a pool noodle for an hour is just nice to escape. Can’t wait to have him out of my life for good.

As a psych nurse I tell people “prune the leaves. Take a little off the top. Give a few leaves out at a time. DON’T give out all your leaves at once before any have grown back and for the love of god, NEVER let anyone touch the stalk.”

Did you just assume they are actively promoting it as if it has valid medicinal uses?

They make it very clear in multiple places like this:

While there’s no scientific evidence that rose quartz crystals offer any health benefits, they’re still commonly used for healing purposes

This article is actually helping to provide facts about the subject. You should be supportive of this article, not disparaging it.

All truth is truth. I’m proud of your knowledge of source, but not of your rejection of information based on source.

Tbf, Healthline hasn’t been the most reliable source of information for a long time, although they don’t stray too much. If they cleaned up their act then good for them, but their reputation is strained.

Does anyone know how to actually take a break at that point? Like, I know as a rational person that I shouldn’t push myself to burnout due to anxiety. But I don’t know how to stop my brain hyper-focusing on it. ;_:

Meditation/mindfulness can really help If you get stuck ruminating about something and/or are dealing with anxiety. It was a fad recently, but there’s some real science behind a multitude of benefits from it. There’s a free app called Medito and I found the Headspace Guide to Meditation to be very informative.

I’m not sure how helpful this picture really is, and I suspect it’s really just shareable rather than actionable.

It’s really just saying take more breaks, which is similar to “work less”.

No shit. I’d feel great if I worked less.

I’ve started to get some mileage from making boundaries. For context, I have chronic fatigue so I do almost no work at all, always feel I should be doing more whenever I can, and hyper-focus to occasionally do things in ‘big’ (actually still small) chunks.

It’s helped me to make Saturdays strictly a rest day (I try to keep it strict!) and not do work even if I could do a bit. And I’ve started sometimes making evenings after 6 or 7pm no-work, even if my focus has just kicked in and I could do some stuff.

Making boundaries to preserve rest as a valuable thing, rather than always “you can rest if you absolutely have to but you really should be working,” has been helpful for me. And I find sometimes it helps regulate the hyper-focus -> burnout cycle.

This kind of advice isn’t about making you feel bad it’s about trying to help it not get that bad in the future. It’s easy to get dehydrated without realizing it and that can and will kill you if you aren’t careful. It isn’t a callout it’s a PSA :)

I feel is very difficult to know how much energy one have in reserve and balancing it with the desire to perform.
