Yes, but we can have the tax cuts now /s
There is a lot going on here and unfortunately your stance, although reasonable and well thought out, is not what the ruling parties care about.
First of all this is not about savings, it is about picking winners and losers. The current government has chosen renewable energy as the loser and non-renewables like petroleum and coal as the winners.
Your concern about the future is well founded, but if you look it at it from the ruling parties point of view you would understand they are not worried. In fact, the see the coming displacement of millions of humans as another way to make money.
The little guy will lose everything and become desperate which is to the advantage of those who own capital. Think lower wages and less benefits equalling higher profits. When our society is structured in this way you can see these perverse incentives allow them to ignore human suffering.
Just wait, as soon as the next party takes over they will be all worried about the deficit again. We just can’t spend any money because our defecit is just too high! This cycle has happened several times in the past already.
Tax breaks are okay, but paying for social programs to help people are not. The transfer of wealth to the minority can continue unfettered because they have captured regulation in the government and they can set the agenda with the media. This is what is happening now.
But the big fuck you to all of humanity is worth it more than the cost savings.
Yes they are. Money in a billionaires pocket is the only important goal.
