And then one fine day the bourgeoisie is awakened by a terrific boomerang effect: the gestapos are busy, the prisons fill up, the torturers standing around the racks invent, refine, discuss. People are surprised, they become indignant. They say: “How strange! But never mind—it’s Nazism, it will pass!” And they wait, and they hope; and they hide the truth from themselves, that it is barbarism, the supreme barbarism, the crowning barbarism that sums up all the daily barbarisms; that it is Nazism, yes, but that before they were its victims, they were its accomplices; they tolerated that Nazism before it was inflicted on them, they absolved it, shut their eyes to it, legitimized it, because, until then, it had been applied only to non-European peoples; that they have cultivated that Nazism, that they are responsible for it, and that before engulfing the whole edifice of Western, Christian civilization in its reddened waters, it oozes, seeps, and trickles from every crack.

        — Aimé Césaire, Discourse on Colonialism (1950)

Because that’s the currency he’s trading on.

    You understand that, right?

He’s spending our goodwill and good name (what little of it we’ve managed to cultivate the last 80 years is largely around stability of trade, which he has royally fucked up) to enrich himself and earn personal favors for himself.

He’s diving deep into all of our political capital, emotional, and good credit bank accounts and spending it a million to one to get himself stupid shit like this “Palace Jet”. He’s trading against our country’s reputation. Selling it at a huge discount to anyone who will give him what he wants in the moment.

Oh, but he does, the scale of the US and the interconnectedness of the world mean that he fucks over people around the globe, to varying degrees.

The goal should be to fuck over no one, and when someone is getting the short end of the stick do to things you can’t prevent, to dampen the blow as much as possible assist them in other ways. That means if a country is getting exploited for cheaper labor during a current era, we should be pushing other protections and conveniences that can hopefully help to dampen the blow.

That can directly enable more dictatorship. Giving them fuel that is easy to make into believable propoganda to push on their people to validate lashing back out at other people. No one will hesitate or have reason to care about the American populous getting shit on do to the choices made by these administrations. Their decisions directly screw us over. If everyone is tripping each other and dragging each other down we just progress slower. The reason people starve is do to others being greedy.

I mean, the guys only good at one thing. It would be nice if we weren’t the one getting it in the ass, you know, since we elected him. Nicer still if he dropped dead.

Which specific things have gotten worse for you? I have massive issues with some of his policies, but I haven’t had any negative effects on a personal level… so far
