    FMLA is a federal program, not a state one. It means you can’t be fired over it certain kinds of leave and is often unpaid. That 9mo your wife got is unusual.

    There is no guaranteed paid parental leave in the US.

      Sorry, yes you are correct. The paid leave comes from the state that added onto this. It was 4 weeks’ pay from the state. She was allowed 6 in total. After that was up, it was up to the school district to allow her the rest of the time off. The time off allowed came from her accrued sick time and vacation over the years. She still needed the request approved by the board since it was a lot of time. 2 and a half of those months were also summer, which she is off for anyway.
