In a state where 18 is not old enough to drink, Edwards believes girls at 16 are old enough to get married. Edwards’ daughter, Elizabeth, served as a state representative, and Edwards said her service was the inspiration for his run for office. He is in his third term.

OP, why are you posting this now? This is from March 2024, and it’s related to the (now dead) bill introduced effort by the New Hampshire GOP to reduce oppose raising the state’s marriage age below to 18. Even the post on /c/politics is that old.

Edit: I misremembered this event and wasn’t responsible enough to properly verify what I was saying. I’m really sorry.

It’s scary and gross how the same issue keeps coming back, frequently and in enough places that we can easily confuse one case for another.

Just yesterday I learned about Hardy Billington, a rep in Missouri. The topic article of the thread mentioned him being in favor of child marriage in April 2025, which made it confusing when I checked his Wikipedia page and saw that the only notable thing on it was when he endorced child marriage last year, in 2024. At first I thought it was about the recent bill, but no - this 70+ year old man really wants underage girls to be able to marry.

Point is, you can be forgiven for confusing similar events. The pedophiles are frickin’ everywhere. 😟
