The 1979 film starring Clint Eastwood about the daring 1962 escape attempt aired on the local PBS channel just six hours before the president made his demand that the prison be reopened
Greenland is so bad but its a nice guilty pleasure. It does not convey the actual panic and shit show that would ensue in that situation. The soldiers are just like “oh well the world is ending… lets help all the rich people escape and totally function better than we do in much less critical situations”. Gerard Butler also causes a cargo plane of (rich) people to blow up. Its so bad but its so ridiculous in the way a disaster slop movie should be.
I tried to rewatch it with my partner the other night (hence why it was on my mind) and unfortunately the cargo plane that blows up is mostly full of desperate people. Gerard Butler tells all the ‘selected’ people to get off because he sees the fuel leaking and knows it’s dangerous. They run off it and a bunch of desperate, zombie-coded masses run on before the gunfire ignites everything.
(yes I am wearing my ‘genius at work’ tee shirt, why do you ask?)
I don’t mind the ridiculousness - I’m kind of an OG Roland Emmerich disaster movie defender - but I just found it very dull the second time around. We eventually gave up and rewatchrd Contagion instead which still more than holds up, even though it probably wasn’t the best thing to watch when I have the flu.
Did he watch that terrible end of the world movie Greenland before the who Greenland idea?

Nah the US foreign policy ghouls have been going on about Greenland for quite some time.
