    Not just Trump.
The US government has never had a problem with nazis. They are very right-wing country and what they hate most is anything left, especially communism. Also the fascists prefered system is corporatism. A wet dream for the ultra-capitalist US. They have a lot in common.

And just look at their track record:
They intervened in WW2 purely out of self-interest.
Not to fight the nazis or liberate us.

There was plenty of fascist sentiment in the US at that time. The US helped 1000’s of the worst nazis escape in WW2 trough the so-called ratlines and left most of the leaders and important collaborators in Europe unbothered. General Patton “we fight the wrong enemy” was put in charge of denazification of which he unsurprisingly said he didn’t see the purpose. Also they organised fascist ‘stay behind’ armies in many countries, e.g. Project Aerodynamic. And made nazis like Heusinger chairman of the NATO Military Committee, or Hans Speidel Commander in Chief of the Allied Forces of Central Europe.

Later the US also saw nothing wrong with incorporating 100% fascist regimes like Spain, Portugal or Greece in NATO, in fact they were good friends and heavily involved in keeping them in power. Dissent in those countries was crushed by American tanks and guns. in November 1973, students spontaneously occupied Greece’s most prestigious university, the Athens Polytechnic. On the walls they mostly wrote 2 slogans: OUT USA and OUT NATO. That’s how important they were for the junta.

And don’t get me started on South America. Plenty of fascist regimes put in power there by the US. Supporting them militarily, training death squads and more , if not actually fighting for them covertly.

    I could go on.>
