Rural voters have long been a cornerstone of Trump's base, and any slippage in their support could have major implications for future Republican success.
It’s not entirely their fault that they don’t have better information. It’s not like the Democrats or left parties have been educating and explaining things to them. All they have is conservative values the learned experience of neo-liberal Democrats globalization gutting their towns and a propaganda machine unchecked by regulation or ethics.
But people don’t actively choose their news, information and opinions anymore. It’s shoved into their faces by algorithms, “new and trending” front pages, tv stations or news pages and papers owned by billionaires, who decide what to publish and which spin to put on.
Even in windows and android you get tabloid and fake news thrown at you if you open the default browser with factory settings. You have to spend time to configure your systems to remove all the bs, which I don’t think many people will do.
Even social media is manipulated with bots, fake likes and chat bots pushing their owners viewpoints.
im not making an excuse im simply saying that calling them Scum is a bit too far, the people doing this are scum but the rural people who voted for it dont experience the same world that urban people do. Sure you can say they should look up info and they probably do, but dont know how to tell if its a valid or honest source. Until something affects them personally they just cant see any of the effects, and what they are shown is filtered for them so why would they question it and look for other sources. They dont know they are being lied to.

All human knowledge is available to anyone that lives in a country with uncensored internet access. They are ignorant because they choose to be so.
