12 year old account got permabanned for telling a Nazi off. But even before this happened I’ve noticed how much reddit has dropped off the last few years compared to when I discovered it.
Got banned for saying that “Israeli people should be upset enough with Netanyahu to have his head on a pike” for “advocating violence”. Even non-native English speakers are familiar with this expression which does not literally mean heads on pikes unless you somehow travel back in time to medieval Europe.
I’ve been on reddit since it’s inception and while I didn’t go there that often now that Lemmy exists the ban kinda seals the Reddit brand for me.
Another turning point was the April fools mini game this year which was universally hated. This has never happened on Reddit before. I think Reddit is beyond redemption at this point unfortunately and Reddit itself thinks that so they’ll get their bags while they can.
on pics i was able to get some people reported for the ops of those post trying to frame it as a BIDEN only issue(these gaza injuries pics are a biden caused issue) i was reminding them all republicans wouldve supported as well as any D president, which i reported as misinformation . and then i pointed out this was never the issue for the decades of the same violence while benajmain was in power, and suddenly it started popping up as propaganda against biden. remember trump told Netanyahu not to stop the attacks, because it would hurt his chances of winning, dint seen any railing trump for doing that, so it means all those posts were just to attack the dems.
Tbh I’m 80% conviced that Reddit is infiltrated by Israel astroturf and I say that as someone who used to support Israel.
All these bad actor signs that Israel justifies is actually doing a long term opposite if it can flip supporters like this. Extremely poor leadership of really unmatched levels up until recent US election of Trump imo.
They want to be “Corporate Friendly.”
Criticize corporations, or Musk and Trump for a week, enjoy your permanent ban.
We’ll be here for you.
Welcome to the reality! I saw reddit changing in a bad way 2 years ago and came to lemmy.
I got a 3 day site wide ban for saying that without due process, these ICE guys are just racking up hundreds of kidnapping and trafficking charges in a sane world. The ban said I was threatening violence. I’m done with Reddit.
I figure they have AI chatbots making the decisions and it can’t term the difference between talking about violence and advocating for violence
Or underpaid and overworked and possibly non native speaker human contractors
most of them use bots, the mods admitted to using those and they dint care if it gets random people or not(wether the context of the reporting was offensive or not), they believe it gets rid of them having to deal with it personally. i was looking at the modhelp, and help subs.
It really seems like it. I had all my posts wiped for the night when I got banned. It bothered me that my posts in r/lockpicking got wiped after I made a post in /r/news. I just said ICE agents should be concerned with the amount of kidnapping and trafficking charges that they could see if sanity takes back over because it’s getting into the thousands. Mods said that was violent talk and I was banned. I’ll miss r/lockpicking. It was a fun community.
Reddit only wants plain vanilla, perfectly non-offensive content. Nothing controversial, nothing. As to why they’ve changed, we can kick that idea around all night long, but that’s where they’re at, what they want.
right wing content, is hardly vanilla, they have been gearing for that just like FB AND youtube does now. right wing content drives traffic, specifically right wingers to the site, and hate watchers.
I got permabanned just for participating in /r/enoughmuskspam. We figured out Musk frequented the sub, and as an active member who mocked him daily, I had a feeling it was coming. I’m fairly sure he flagged me and other users for permabans.
Their excuse was that I said (((Soros))) to a Nazi MAGA claiming Soros was funding all the protests, which wasn’t at all true. Why is that a bannable offense? Never seen censorship like that on the net in my life
My suspicion is that it’s happening a lot and that they want to turn Reddit red like they did with Twitter. Musk and Reddit’s CEO are pals.
That was a honeypot to ban anyone critical of Musk, and corporations in general.
I fell for it, too.
musk monitors reddit , since hes on xitter all the time. he has the time, because hes high on cocaine or adderall to give him that energy.
Me, too. 12 year account, 900K+ Karma. I was looking forward to crossing the million mark this year.
At first I was concerned about having fewer people on Lemmy, but for things like Politics, the quality of discourse is far higher than Reddit. Every Reddit post is filled with puns, idiots, trolls, Russian propaganda farmers, etc., all of which are far smaller or non-existent on Lemmy.
I still miss Reddit’s active guitar subs, though.
its the astroturfing from the russian trolls
You need to delete all of your content ASAP because 12 year account can be 100% tied back to you. Everything you said and all of your history data might as well be public on the web with your name right now so you should keep that in mind.
Its laughably easy to tie accounts to identities these days with machine learning tools and 12 years of data is a lot.
they retroactively banned accounts because of that.
not sure I follow? Your new account gets banned? You need to create it on a new ip and clear browser data. The easiest way to do that:
- Clear your browser data for the page entirely (best to make a new browser profile).
- Use celular hotspot for mobile network IP. These are highest value IPs as they are residential and shared between a pool of people. Very difficult to fingerprint.
- Create account with an email and details you have not used before.
- Use that setup for a while then switch to a VPN.
This is a very effective anti-fingerprint strategy that will get you over 99% of fingerprint systems and allow you to make as many accounts whenever you want.
I had a 13 year old account I simply stopped using in 2023 when compact.reddit.com was killed and the API changes fees were introduced. Lemmy was “good enough” get to get what I was getting from reddit. I stopped using reddit and haven’t posted since.
Reddit is fucking dead. It’s like 40% Russian psyops trolls, 25% bots, 25% Nazi trolls, 5% users, and 5% admins looking for shit to ban people for
Remember back in 2022 when Russia disconnected from the global Internet? Reddit was great that day. The amount of trolls and devisive posts plummeted and discussions were much more civil. That was when I first started thinking about looking for a different place to hang out (I had been a pretty prolific reddit commenter). Then the stuff in spring 2023 happened and I found my way here, leaving Reddit for good. No regrets for sure.
And 100% cunt mods.
actually you can turn that 5% admin, to AI autobanning people, becauses thats been happening since janurary.
almost all the appeals were AI responses.
Apart from the 5% users, don’t the rest all overlap entirely?
Yes, but they make sure they have a separate account for each category, so the math works out.
I’d say the most recent major influences were the IPO and the emergence of LLMs.
Reddit becoming a publicly traded company and the preparation to do so certainly initiated a major shift in its priorities.
Ai and large language models make it easier than ever to create shiny, but low quality content.
And the rest is just reddit becoming more mainstream leading to an overall shift towards banal rather than niche topics.
i said they are following the facebook method, FB is now mostly AI using old accounts pushing right wing propaganda, i only see reddit will do the same eventually. or they try to look like a"both sides" type of site while allowing signicant astroturfing from russian trolls.
I suspect they have been tweaking the front page algorithms to bury niche posts. Niche subs that I already follow don’t seem to have changed, but r/popular and r/all have definitely lost their spark.
pushing r/conservatives, and any sub that talk about politics to the front was pretty obvious of the manipulation. Also the “baiting subs” like glowups, gym is there too.
deleted by creator
The only reason I log in there now is to slowly erase my comment history.
Literal brownshirt-wannabes are not worth engaging on social media, and “don’t feed the troll” has been an Internet aphorism since last century now
Just in case you didn’t know this, here is a program that lets you mass edit and delete all your comments on Reddit:
https://redact.dev/services/reddit
The free version only edits all your comments with random words, but for me was good enough just to delete my main account asap.
I’ve seen the randomized replacement text results here and there. Right now I’m getting some entertainment value from rereading my footprints before I scrub them, but I might look into that service.
Yep, also told off Nazis. Then, perm banned. I’ve been on that site for 15 years, moved over to Lemmy. Fuck Reddit.
i recieved a temp ban for reporting trolls on r/tech because they said " i reported too many people", which my understanding based on other reports it was going to be permabanned anyways after the temp ban was lifted.
I was permabanned twice for speaking favorably of a certain green-capped man.
Don’t worry, you can say Luigi Mangione here.
And say Luigi Mangione’s glorious name I will.
How dare you blasphemers.
It’s “Saint Luigi.” Get it right!
Not to mention the reposts.
The number of old pics and videos that keep reposting is through the roof.
r/AskReddit has dropped in quality. It used to keep me busy and entertained for ages.
The only reason I use Reddit now are for old niche posts that answer specific questions. Other than that, I find my selfing going to lemmy first these days.
askreddit went to sht when they started allowing people to ask political or entertainment questions, it was obviously getting the users riled up. people on another site said the safe subs were askreddit, but it wasnt because the sub is large and is heavily monitored.
I’m just there for the porn, these days. Any sort of meaningful interaction with people happens elsewhere.
Uh… no offense, but why go to Reddit for porn when there’s PornHub, Xvideos, and Jizzle?
Got banned for telling a Nazi off.
I hate to be that guy, but when you say “Nazi,” are you referring to a literal 1940s National Socialist German Workers Party 3rd/4th Reich “Aryan Race is superior and Jews are evil” Nazi (aka a real actual Nazi), or someone with a different political/social opinion/ideology from you (ie, a Republican/Democrat/whatever is opposite of your political/social ideology)?
I was on Reddit for like 13 years and never got banned for less than positive interactions with people that said they supported real, actual Nazis.
No.
The names change, but the ideology is the same. “Nazi” is just what they called themselves then. Now they’re “MAGA Republicans.” The ideology is virtually identical.
The ideology being blame “The Other” for your woes, when the Aristos are the ones fucking you.
“The Other” now being Latino migrants and Transsexuals.
You conveniently left out the mostly likely case of them being Neo-Nazis which have been around since post-WWII.
I mean, was not when I said “4th Reich” including Neo-Nazis? I thought that is what I included.
Just to be clear, I do not support Nazis or Neo-Nazis. But American Democrats and Republicans (or any other ideology that may be different from my own) are not Nazis or Neo-Nazis. I don’t agree with either side of American politics, but that does not make me qualify them as Nazis.
IMO, calling anyone that is not an actual, real Nazi, such as an American Democrat or Republican (or whoever else thinks opposite from me), a “Nazi” or even “Neo-Nazi,” de-values the real suffering that people who are actual Holocaust victims had to deal with. Quite frankly, is insulting to me that anyone would ever attempt to equate the two. Its like saying getting hit by a fly swatter and a train will be the same level of pain and suffering.
I might think someone who thinks opposite of me is stupid, but it is neither illegal or against any rules to be stupid (sadly). But I certainly would not call them a Nazi and de-value the suffering Holocaust victims had to go through.
You sound like a Nazi trying to muddy the waters to keep people from calling out Nazis.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re not a Neo-Nazi troll.
Stop being so literal, Professor Pedantic.
The political strategy and ideology of modern MAGA Republicans is virtually identical to that of the Nazi party 90 years ago.
Calling people nazis is just shorthand for fascist which allows people to understand the depths of the horrors these individuals will cause.
It in no way devalues the suffering of Holocaust victims, its a warning.
You dont fucking wait until they’re turning the gas valves to go ‘oh these people are fascists!’
NSDAP, of course. Their moronic administrative decision of having redundant public institutions compete with each other is simply nonsense.
Given how Reddit bans are currently being dealt out, it’s likely a “Aryan Race is superior and Jews are evil” Republican.
Well, Spez stated in an interview if society collapsed, he would be one of the ones in charge, due to his superiority.
“Steve Huffman, cofounder and CEO of Reddit, is confident he can emerge as a winner after the collapse of the social order. As he told Osnos, “I also have this somewhat egotistical view that I’m a pretty good leader. I will probably be in charge, or at least not a slave, when push comes to shove.” This seems at the very least debatable—perhaps even wishful thinking.”

There was an interview where a tech reporter sat in on a meeting between Techbroligarchs, and they were literally discussing how to keep their security and staff loyal. The subject of “Shock Collars” was seriously discussed.
Good luck with that when the your Security takes your family hostage, Genius.
These guys are that delusional.
They are terrified. They should be. We should make them more afraid.
on another forum(not lemmy) they said reddit has recently enhanced thier detection of people ban evading using paid methods, which uses things to hide thier browser ID, IP,etc. its getting worst actually. thier also doing bulk bans, if a stranger gets banned anyone that is similar to that acct is also shadowbanned(allegedly thats what other banned users are reporting)
