I’m looking to compete in a shotgun/pistol match in June and have zero shotgun-related pouches for my plate carrier and/or belt. I’m a big Esstac fan and have KWYI pouches on both, and I see that they offer shotgun cards that are apparently the perfect size to slot into the KWYI pouches, but I had no idea how they’re intended to be used. It looks like you just yank it out and there’s your shells, but it looks like it would be difficult to manipulate with my support hand while hanging on to the shotgun. Am I missing something? Is there some other way they’re intended to be used? I have also seen some placards that essentially look like a velcro backer that the cards are just stuck to, at least with those it looks like I could pull individual shells loose without having to look down. Any recommendations? I’m not opposed to buying a whole new placard and/or belt solution if I have to.
I think the intent is that you pull out a fresh card and stick it to the side of the receiver, basically a removable sidesaddle shell holder. The Velcro makes it easy to discard the spent holder and slap on a new one. I’ve never used them, but I also don’t do competitive shooting, just hunting. For hunting, a pocket with loose shells is good enough.
So I guess I’d be applying some adhesive loop side velcro to the receiver to make that work then? That makes a bit more sense than it just flopping around at least. Thanks for the insight!
Correct. Good luck!
