Tbh, the 4th amendment hasn’t meant jack-shit since before 9/11, hell, probably before the war on drugs. This is just the latest chip away from the right to not have your person and properly be arbitrarily searched or seized. There are so many exceptions and workarounds for the cops to do a search without needing to obtain a warrant, and too many cases where the law just hasn’t caught up to recognize a search as a search (especially concerning searches of digital information). In fact, terrifyingly, most people that I’ve talked to about this seemed to have the impression that the cops can perform a search if there’s probable cause. NO! The cop needs a warrant from the courts, it’s the court’s job to decide if there is probable cause. At least it should be - like I said, that particular separation of power has been whittled away at for decades.

The only time I will ever even consider a verbal confrontation with a cop is when I’m ready whip out guns and die.
