Bugger. House is a no, I’ve withdrawn my application. The current tenant was there and very informative. Cooling is broken and the landlord has been refusing to fix it, heating is a bit dodgy too. Looks like they bought it 7 years ago and failed to do even the bare minimum maintenance since then.

So back to square 1 ☹️

It’s an urgent repair that should have been done ASAP. The fact that it’s not done, plus the fact the agent is not even on top of what type of heating and cooling are in the property, is a major red flag.

Sounds like you managed to dodge a bad one there.

Maybe you need Mr Woof to sniff out the bad ones.

Yeah. There were a bunch of other things wrong too which I could have lived with (primarily cosmetic stuff, like damaged paint and old carpet). It was pretty concerning that the real estate agent didn’t even seem to know what the heating and cooling in the property actually were, they were advertising things as current that had obviously been replaced years ago, and even the replacements were broken!

I did get to pat the owner’s puppy though, so there was some good.

Bugger. That tenant is a dead set legend though. I guess you are sadly getting the full brunt of what renting is like now. Mad prices for poorly maintained holes, lying abound…

Yeah, some of it is not good. I did go to another place this afternoon which was really great. But it also had about 30 people at the inspection, and I heard one women asking if she can still make an offer of higher rent. So I don’t think I have any chance at that one, but at least it was not a depressing hellhole.

I have another inspection lined up for Saturday, and a few for Tuesday. Trying to keep track of them all, plus whether I have inspecte/applied for etc. is becoming a challenge.

Oh well, worst case scenario I end up living in the van, which is really quite roomy…
