Hello community, I’m in a situation regarding the 22 year rule and was wondering if anyone had any experience with dealing with this rule or is able to help me identify what exactly I need to do.
I’m 20 years old and live in Canada (born), I have a Danish passport since my parents used to live in Denmark before moving to Canada.
I want to retain my Danish passport past the age of 22 because I plan on living/working in Denmark or the EU in the future once I finish school here in Canada, but I’ve never visited Denmark despite the good amount of family/friends I know living there.
I know the rule states that I need to live in Denmark for 90 days before I turn the age of 22 to keep my citizenship/passport past the age of 22 and that’s why I’m going to moving there for next summer (may to august), but I’m not too sure on exactly how the process works. I have a bunch of questions that hopefully someone can help me with. :)
- Where exactly do I need to go once I land in Denmark? What government buildings, and to do what? I plan on staying at my family friends home, that will be my permanent address while staying there.
- Is there anything I need to do before I arrive in Denmark while still being in canada?
- Do I go back to the same government building once the 90 days are done and apply for a new passport? What documentations will I need to prove I lived there for 90 days?
- Can I visit other countries during the 90 days, such as the Nordic countries or even Germany?
- Once I land there, from my knowledge I go and apply for a CPR number that I must have for the 90 days, correct? Am I capable of applying for one since I have a passport?
Thanks to anyone who’s able to help.
