That’s hard enough for some people to swallow. But to top it all off, I tried some adderall in pursuit of seeing if it was worth seeking a diagnosis and all it did was make my heart beat fast. I think I’m neurotypical!

I’m not sure how much of this is a joke but if you suspect that you have ADHD and believe it is having a negative impact on your life then I strongly encourage you seek a diagnosis. Trying medication on your own is not that informative nor is it a substitute for professional help.

I wasn’t sure whether I just had bouts of fatigue or some kind of inattentive ADHD and I was hoping that trying the medication would show me whether it was worth the effort and cost of trying to get a professional to help (something that historically hasn’t scratched the itch for me). I just have a hard time seeing the benefit of someone talking me through feeling non-prodictive and slapping a label on it if the miracle drug isn’t going to give me a miracle.

You’ve put the cart before horse, you cannot take the medicine to get a diagnosis. There are different medications that work for different people at different doses, you don’t just need a psych for the prescription but also to manage how you take it. Try taking an online screening test. If you score highly then consider reading over teacher notes on your school reports and/or discussing it with someone very close that you trust will take the conversation seriously to see if there are ADHD indicators noticed by others. I’m not sure what your history is and I’m not going to push you to anything you don’t want to do. But I also don’t want to walk past someone who might be dismissing something that could be very beneficial for them based on some DIY that is not representative of what professional help can do. I wish you the best whatever you decide to do.

Thank you very much, comrade. I’ve seen people get ripped apart by mental health online and in real life. It’s not pretty. I will take this into consideration as I continue to make sure I don’t get amogus by my own brain
