I mean I am AFAB and I do identify as a girl but also I don’t feel entirely binary. I guess I wasn’t assigned Nonbinary at birth but it still feels weird to say I’m trans when I’m AFAB and present and act like and call myself a girl. I don’t know, help me out here people.

That makes sense, it still feels weird to say like if I said I was trans or trans-nonbinary people would think I’m transfem and maybe think I’m apropriating when they learn I’m AFAB.

The word “transfem” exists for a reason. No one should be assuming anything about your AGAB based on your expressed identity.

Are you cis? No? Then you’re trans. No one is “more trans” or “less trans” than anyone else.

I’m technically bi, but I don’t lead with that because it’d probably give people the impression that my attraction is balanced between genders. Totally fair to not lead with “trans” if you don’t want to deal with that.

That makes sense probably should lead with saying I’m AFAB and Nonbinary, then say I’m trans so no one gets the wrong idea. People thinking I’m appropriating probably isn’t a real issue, it’s probably just something my autistic brain made up because I overthink things way too much and also am afraid of pissing people off.

Um, no? Not if that isn’t how you feel. Don’t let other people tell you who you are or how to describe yourself.

“Transness” is the experience of not aligning with the gender that society placed on you at birth. If you experienced that, if you resonate with the stories of other trans people, if you feel at home in trans spaces - then you’re trans.

And if other people don’t get that, fuck em. It isn’t their call to make. It’s not your job to make other people respect you - it’s your right as a human being to get the same respect everyone else gets. It isn’t something you have to earn.

If you like telling people your AGAB, then please do, but if anyone makes you feel like you have to disclose your AGAB then they’re just transphobic. YOU ARE NOT YOUR AGAB. And I’ll write that on my knuckles and deliver that message for you any day of the week.
