    It just passed in the House.

    Democrats petitioned for protections for people with a name change and Republicans voted against it. If your birth certificate name doesn’t match your ID, you’ll be needing new documentation if you want to vote. Yes, that includes a married surname.

      So it’s aimed to deprive women and trans people of the vote, especially along with the other deliberate obstacles this regime is creating for trans people trying to get a passport.

    Democrats are also pushing harder to help them ban ranked-choice voting and prevent third parties from getting into the ballots.

    Both parties know they’ve lost any relevance. They’re entrenching, and helping each other do it.

      This has absolutely nothing to do with ranked-choice voting. This is aimed at disenfranchising married women and trans people from voting, specifically because they’re statistically less likely to vote Republican.

        Either you’re not understanding how all of these efforts are interconnected, or you only oppose voter suppression when it’s Republicans doing it. Either way, you’re not gonna be any help in this fight.

    Yes, what they are trying to do is bad, but note that it needs 60 in the senate to pass the filibuster

    Senate Dems were pretty vocal against it last year when they tried to get that through. Still make sure to call your senator and tell them to vote no on cloture for it, but don’t preemptively doom about it passing the house

      I hope they remain consistent on this.

    It is a ridiculous premise that most people are highly motivated to vote at all. Certainly, passports are a high income trait, and birth certificate preservation, a stable organized family trait. The real GOP bias is allowing drivers licenses as sufficient ID. Rural people need them. Urban, not so much.

      In an ideal world, voting should not be such a hassle that it requires motivation. The system in the U.S. is fundamentally broken, and has been for awhile.
