        Basically the People’s Republic of China (China) says that Taiwan is part of China, while the Republic of China (Taiwan) refers to the area under its control as “the Taiwan area,” or “the free area.” It refers to the rest of China as “the mainland area,” which the Taiwanese government has described as being under a “Period of Communist Rebellion.”

            Did you read the link or are you just here to troll? According to the UN, they’re not recognized. Some smaller countries recognize them as an independent though.

                They don’t even consider themselves separate. They believe “China” is just in a period of rebellion. Right at the end of the article is your answer: “Until Taiwan formally declares itself independent of the rest of China — or until Taiwan is recognized by the international community as being independent of the rest of China — Taiwan’s status as a country will continue to be questioned.”
