    Technically isn’t this also claiming Trump is right? Or more generally, protectionism which has generally been on it’s way out in the west for 100 years is what allowed Huawei to thrive.

      Trump is absolutely correct on the account that protectionism is necessary to develop domestic industries. The part that’s delusional is the idea that tariffs alone are going to lead private sector to bring industry back. Without a state led investment campaign, there’s not path towards US reindustrializing. What Trump is actually doing is Reaganomics 2.0.
