Hell is a strange concept to me in general. What’s stopping the people there from overthrowing Satan if he’s such a miserable tormentor to literally all of them? Maybe hell would have a caste hierarchy that dilutes revolutionary energy. Also, isn’t it supposed to be that God allows it to exist, which means he could stop hell at any time? Seems a bit sus to me.
I am probably more hard on religion because of learning it in the context of colonizer culture.
I’m formerly Catholic, and the explanation that I read/was taught, was that Satan was the dictator/jailer, at least more so than a directly sadistic tormentor.
And despite not directly being a god, I can’t imagine many people willing to take their chances against a divine figure powerful/intelligent enough to challenge God. An especially a supposedly omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent one.
Also, that even though God and Satan despise each other, God still needed Satan to act as a jailer.
It’s the hole where god puts the things that don’t love them. Just a miserable pit.
I think of it less like a prison, more like the island of misfit toys. Things aren’t right down there, but everyone is gunna do what they can to make it as tolerable as possible.
Of course I don’t believe in hell in an actual sense, which is unfortunate, because some people definitely deserve to languish for all time

For answers to that watch Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel
Obligatory Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel is the best thing since bread.
Actually, I think maybe I should make a community for it, here.
