I mean, the tldr of the Anglo-American post WWII agreement was that the English give up their empire willingly or by force. They chose willingly and have been a junior partner ever since. Going out on your own to strike natural resources extraction deals isn’t a junior partner move, at least not without prior agreement from the big boss.

It kind of makes sense now. Maybe someone in the Trump administration actually realized that the UK was trying to do this and this whole mineral thing that Trump was trying to do is just to shove the UK out of the way.

Like if Ukraine is going to be a colony, why let a has-been imperial power get to colonize it?
