Elon Musk showed interest in an idea that would guarantee a $5,000 payment, or 'DOGE Dividend,' to every American to show off the $55 billion in taxpayer funds saved.
“Head of household” and “king”. What century do you live in?
Edit: UBI would be cool though, but conservatives tend to hate the idea of giving away money “for free”. This money is just to allow them to tear down the state and democracy in peace, saving them some time.
“Head of household” and “king”. What century do you live in?
Do you do your taxes? Head of household term was on this year’s tax return. You are not familiar with that term? Do you live in the US and do your own taxes?
Yes, I’m not from the US, so please excuse my ignorance, it just sounded so old school patriarchal that I assumed that it was a thing of the past. So a household with a mother and a father, are both of them heads of the household then? And if not, do they have to decide who is?
Ahh, ok. So if you aren’t from the US, why are you being so passionate about US politics? I mean, you are totally welcome to do so, but I’m curious about why.
Head of Household is a filing status for unmarried taxpayers who pay more than half the cost of maintaining a home for themselves and a qualifying dependent. To qualify, the taxpayer must be unmarried or considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year and have a dependent who meets IRS criteria. For married couples, the equivalent of Head of Household is typically Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) if both spouses file together, or Married Filing Separately (MFS) if they file individually. Married Filing Jointly offers the best tax benefits, while Married Filing Separately may be used in specific situations, such as when spouses want to keep tax liabilities separate.
Thanks for the thorough explanation of the us tax forms! 😅
Well, I care primarily because what US does affects the whole world. Theo world is much more unstable and unsafe since trump took office.
I also believe in the principle of freedom and democracy and I think it’s sad to see it deteriorate, because I see how it will hurt people. I followed the riots in Hong Kong too as young people tried to fight for their right of self governance, if only for a few more years.
Theo world is much more unstable and unsafe since trump took office.
No it’s not. The fucking world is full of bad people doing bad things. THEY are making the world unstable and unsafe. Other countries can stand up and do shit if they think it’s bad.
I also believe in the principle of freedom and democracy and I think it’s sad to see it deteriorate,
It’s not deteriorating. The majority of American people wanted Trump in office, and they voted him in office. That’s democracy. If you don’t like it, then handle your shit in your own country the way you want things handled.
I guess I’m just interested too! :)
Which is awesome. I applaud that. But just so you know, Lemmy is NOT even close to having the opinions of the majority of Americans. Which is why so many on Lemmy were surprised that Trump won. Lemmy is out of touch with the average american, and most Americans have never even heard of Lemmy. Lemmy is a very very small extremes sample of people who don’t really know much about the average American way of life.
I don’t think so. I like him. Even tho I didn’t vote for him, I’m loving what he’s doing. And I’m loving watching Lemmy freak out about it all.
I could go on, I don’t expect to convince you.
Good choice.
I’m not willing to leave your lies laying undisturbed.
But I’m not lying about anything. I didn’t write the article, friend. Did you write to the publisher of the article and bring up your concerns with them?
Trump didn’t win a majority of votes.
He did. He won by both the electoral vote and the public vote. Every major news org, regardless of political leaning, agrees with that. Do you have proof? Please send that proof the news media!
Endless bloviation and vacuous lies from you and your ilk.
What have I lied about? I didn’t write the article.
You’re clearly not here to discuss facts. They don’t support your narrative.
You only have concepts of an idea and vibes regarding facts.
You continue to lie about basic numbers, engaging with you only serves to point the clown show out to others.
Trump didn’t win a majority and you’re a bald faced liar.
I agree trump was voted in democratically, in a fair election. I’ve only heard trump and his allies imply the election isn’t fair. It’s what trump does to break down the checks and balances which keeps his powers in check. That should be considered a problem by anyone, regardless of political affiliation.
We do democracy a little different from the US, and have many different parties with slightly different ideals. Contrary to the us system that inadvertently creates a two-party political landscape where only two party ideals can compete.
I’m very well aware Lenny is generally more left leaning, even for my country’s average citizen.
Contrary to the us system that inadvertently creates a two-party political landscape where only two party ideals can compete.
Which I oppose and still oppose. I didn’t vote for Trump. I actually voted for the Socialis Workers Party.
And i got banned from instances for advocating third party.
I’m actually a socialist. I appreciate the chaos Trump is causing though. Because the Democrats refused to do anything of value, and they just made fun of anyone who didn’t agree with them. And Democrates hate the idea of third-parties even more than the republicans do.
I was called a Nazi by Lemmy because I refused to vote for Harris. Even tho I would never vote for Trump either. lol
Yeah let’s hope the chaos will be a catalyst for things to change but I worry people with bad intentions are more prepared to use the situation.
Do you really believe the chaos is more likely to lead to something good, rather than break down the three-pillar checks and balances the founding fathers lined out? Trump obviously wants more power to the executive branch and has the blessing to ignore the judicial branch of government. And it might be hard to claw back once in the power balance has bern shifted.
The two party system is obviously flawed, when people choose to vote for some one-size-fits-all compromise instead of one mirroring their political views. Because that’s what is incentivized.
Lenny is pretty aggressive in its left leaning ideologies and I tend to lean the same way, but I also like to understand the other viewpoint.
You say you voted socialist, but you post a lot of conservative news. Why is that? Because you want to broaden the Lemmy political spectrum or what?

Trump is making things unsafe and lying. His lies regarding Ukraine are destabilizing the world, by victim blaming.
His words are blaming Ukraine for being attacked.
I could go on, I don’t expect to convince you. Other people stumble across your self hatred and mistake it for honest discussion.
I’m not willing to leave your lies laying undisturbed.
Trump didn’t win a majority of votes. Check your lies again.

As noted, not here to convince you. You’re obvious propaganda. I hope your opinion keeps you warm at night.
A quick check of my statements show numerous articles supporting my statements, including the raw numbers. Trump did NOT win a Majority of votes.
Here Let me google that for you, since you’re having trouble and conflating facts from fiction. Did trump win vote majority what does that mean?
Since you seem to be ignoring obvious facts, I’ll help you find what your dictator fellating seems to have blinded you to.
