    I was in a swing district that had been republican. A conservative democrat took the seat for two terms. Then my are got packed into a democratic strong hold.

    I now have one of the most progressive representatives in the house. I like him a lot better then my old rep but would rather have the 2 democratic votes in the house like before.

      I agree there’s no opposition party. You can look up ‘‘the two Santas’’ if you wanna learn more. We’ve been stuck between two halves of the same neo liberal party for decades.

        “Two Santas” is a Republican strategy of cutting taxes when in power, and demanding service cuts when not in power due to the budget deficit caused by their tax cuts. It’s not something the Democrats accede to.

          They accept the framing and vote for austerity, so yes, they are complicit in this dynamic.

            The bulk of them do not, so no. You did see some of that in the last few years because the Democrats never had anything more than a very narrow majority in the Senate, so one or two being bought off could prevent a budget from passing.
