When one of the prisoners is questioned if he realised he was fighting against Ukraine, he shakes his head in denial. As the interpreter translated, the prisoner was told he was merely going for training.
The prisoner originally expressed a desire to remain in Ukraine, but subsequently stated that he would “do as he is ordered”. The interpreter explained, “If he has to return, he will. If given the chance, he will stay here.”
Another North Korean prisoner nodded affirmatively when asked if he wanted to return to North Korea.
They could go to South Korea, too, if not able to be exchanged.
They shouldithreaten to send them to south korea if an exchane isn’t done soon. or perhaps if north korea doesn’t stop sending more troops.
they may not know that, but SK is actually really nice and NK citizens get SK citizenship automatically and AFAIK welcome money and integration help.
Probably hard to convince a North Korean that South Korea is different from whatever the North’s propaganda shows it as. Plus they might have family in the North.
A lot of ppl in both Koreas also have family in the other part.
Not soldiers. they are too young to have family - just distant relatives who they have never met and nean nothing.

NK refuges are an easy target for NK operatives, and they are seen as a threat by NK there. It’s easier to live outside of the region for them.
Why would anybody want to go to South Korea right now? Their whole government is a shitshow right now with massive protests from both sides.
Better than a North Korean gulag for sure.
Neither one sounds fun.
In the same way that neither being out in a light drizzle or during a hurricane/earthquake/tsunami/oil refinery on fire combo would be fun.
One sounds much more fun than the other.
Things are working - evil is everywhere they just stopped it.
AFAIK NK ppl get welcome money and integration help in SK
Right? Then if you hate the place I’m sure it’s possible to move elsewhere. I can’t imagine you’re stuck there forever. I’m sure a lot of us have lived in a place or situation that wasn’t perfect but helped us to move on to something better.
Straight back to North Korea sounds no bueno.
