I made a gallery script to automatically embed the images and make them clickable. Is it better to have the images side-by-side like this, or vertically with spacing in between like I was doing before?

I’d say vertically is better. The problem with having them side by side is that it’s not obvious which direction you’re supposed to read the pages in.
