I currently live in one of the few illegal states in the US. There is a “dispensary” a block away from my house where you can buy something that looks, smells, and makes you feel the same way regular weed does.
I’m also currently contracted at a company that hires DOT employees, so they implement random drug testing for everyone. I work a very technical desk job, and an occasional bowl was the best way to rest my brain after work.
So, if I walk up the street and purchase a bag of hemp and smoke it, I could lose my job.
OR I can walk a bit further and get black out drunk at a bar, and call out of work the next day (something I have done before).
What’s fucked is the tests also cover alcohol, but being hung over isn’t against the rules, even if I’m far more impaired than if I smoked a bowl a week ago.
Not sure why I posted this, can probably remove it. Just feel the need to vent I suppose.
Texas?
No, but that news is seriously discouraging.
Not to rub it in, but as someone who lives in a state where it has been legal for about 10 years and who also works from home, my experience couldn’t be more different than yours.
I guess it just comes down to electing better people to represent your state, or moving.
is leaving that state a viable option for you?
Technically yes, realistically no. I’d rather be a force for change here. It’s a wonderful place, despite our backwards politicians.
Hello from Wisconsin!
I’m medical in a legal state and got told I was “wasting (the interviewer’s) time” because they’re DOT (it was a job as a barge deckhand). Meanwhile all those dudes get wasted pretty much at all times, I found White Claw cans strewn around the worksite. Jah forbid I smoke a fuckin’ joint in my own living room though!
I’m in Texas. I get an ounce of type 2 (about half cbd, half thc) every month and occasionally i order type 1 (high thc) flower or vapes. It all comes via USPS to my mailbox, totally legal thanks to the 2018 farm bill. There are only about 6 states that have outlawed it - some on the west coast because the smaller hemp farms cut into profits for the bigger weed companies.
If it makes you feel any better, I’m also in one of the few remaining illegal states, and I don’t expect that to change any time soon (marijuana legality or my ability to move someplace better).
Can’t really offer you anything except company.
I have spent way too much time getting my hopes up for things to change here. Appreciate the company. May the day come for us both sooner than we think. 🍃
Same, except I’m basically dependent on federal action and hoping the state doesn’t decide to say “nah” and re-criminalize it at the state level (or some other obstruction).
We don’t have citizen-initiated ballot initiatives here, so only the state legislature can introduce any kind of legalization bills. Given the climate, that ain’t happening. I’m surprised we even got medical, TBH, but I don’t qualify.
But, maybe some day!
Yeah, testing for weed now-a-days in any state is just fucked up and stupid.
I am Canadian
Are you sure the tests would detect whatever synthetic cannabinoid you have available? Afaik most common drug tests dont react to HHC for example
Yes, unfortunately. Everything here is delta 8 or delta 9. I’ve even heard someone pissing hot from cbd. I guess if you take it enough, the trace thc can build up.
Is medical marijuana a possibility there?
Nope :/
