A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary said the woman had been treated in hospital and returned to her famil
Alive?
That’s a relief. We all had assumed the worst had happened. I wonder how much of it was due to international pressure and social media.
Probably more national pressure considering the huge protests not long ago.
Possibly. But I remember reading how she was attacked by a man who ripped her clothes off. Her and her family could have made the case that she didn’t strip intentionally. I know Iran doesn’t exactly deserve the benefit of the doubt on this topic but it could be that this was a factor.
I have not seen anything saying that’s how it happened. Everything I’ve seen has said she stripped to her underwear in protest.
Partially, yes. But there was an incident with a man, or men, that led up to that.
The woman, identified as Ahoo Daryaei, had been harassed inside Tehran’s prestigious Islamic Azad University by members of the Basij paramilitary force.
The forces ripped Daryaei’s headscarf and clothes – leading to her staging a protest by stripping to her underwear outside the university.
Personally, I don’t think Iran would have released her based purely on international pressure or social media. Protests and condemnation on this topic is nothing new to them
I’m not going to say what I assumed happened to her, but I’m really relieved to hear this.
“It is not the first time Iranian authorities have branded a woman protesting compulsory hijab laws with a mental illness.”
-There’s got to be some degree of mental illness to do this in that country. Of course the illness can be from living in that country.
wasn’t she sexually harassed by campus cops or something?
